How to control the amount of water added in the castable construction

Date:2020-02-25 17:20 | From:Zhengzhou Sunrise Refractory | Author:admin

During the construction of the castable, the amount of water added directly determines whether our subsequent whole process can be carried out smoothly. The amount of water to be added is not only related to the raw materials, but also considers the construction site environment, wetness, and seasons. You can't simply look at the construction instructions. Only by controlling the amount of water added can the best performance of the castable be achieved. Zhengzhou Tianyang Refractory will briefly introduce it for everyone.
How to control the amount of water added in the castable construction

By adding a certain amount of water to the refractory castable, the dry powder is mixed with appropriate water to make a refractory castable-water system slurry (paste), and then construction (pouring) can be performed. The construction performance of the refractory castable slurry directly determines its fluidity (sometimes including thixotropy). Visible, water is also the key binder in the refractory castable, which plays a media role in the pouring process of the refractory castable. It can ensure that the refractory castable slurry has a certain thixotropy and fluidity (construction performance), and after hardening, it can obtain a dense cast member or lining, which has better bonding performance and mechanical strength.

At present, the method commonly used in the industry to check whether the amount of water added to the pouring material is appropriate is to hold a pellet with the mixed pouring material, and then throw it to a height of about 50 cm, and then catch it by hand. If the pellets received in the hand are sticky and do not spread, it means that the amount of water added is appropriate; if the pellets are scattered, it means that the amount of water added is small, and the castable is shaped into a dry shape; if the pellets received in the hand flow out of the seam, then Explain that too much water is added.

In order to obtain a better refractory casting member or lining, its water consumption needs to be strictly controlled. Because the amount of water added is too high, it will cause the aggregate to separate and deposit with the powder, so that the refractory cast member or (integral) lining will have more pores when a large amount of water escapes during the drying process, which will lead to its loose structure and performance. Decrease, and some important properties after firing, such as decrease in strength and erosion resistance.

In general, the refractory castable's reference water addition amount is 8% -10%. When adding water, you can add water according to the principle of "a small number of times", pay attention to control the time, and the mixing time of the castable should not be too long. Grab a castable with water and hold it in a ball shape (spherical shape). If the ball immediately disperses after holding the ball, it means that the amount of water added is too small. Sure enough, the ball cast material flows down from the finger after holding the ball, indicating that the amount of water is large; only the ball type cast material does not The amount of water added is appropriate when it is dispersed and does not flow out.
